A man who laced treats with sedative and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was kept in jail ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained materials including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She said the defendant proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six boys that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she stated further.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement once more.
She stated the defendant then played the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
