Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Roughly fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Police say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.

Police say preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the public for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
